This and the next box are two studies of the same subject and composition. They vary somewhat in shading and shape, but it is the geometric shape of the triangle that comprises the paintings. Everything from the man's folded legs and back to the division of the negative spaces is in triangles. The triangle has always held much significance in many cultures, whether it symbolized the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost or Earth, Wind and Fire. The couple is connected by his reached out arm and her extended leg. The bright reddish orange hues of the couple are brilliant and resound the strength and solidarity of these new immigrates.
