Title: "Filtering Tool"

Two people talking in a bar using cigarettes as a prop to hide behind, using hands to hide faces. This is an effective block to openness and communication.

S. CRANE ON BREATHING & SMOKING

"The simple act of the deep breath awakens the body and in turn really brings the mind alive. It seems that the mind is often confused as to what state it is in, passive -aggressive, asleep or ruminating on the past. There aren't any better ways to remind the mind to live in the moment and be alive than by taking the deep breath. And nothing seems to encourage the mind more than the deep breath followed by stretching motion and activity. But it is that conscious act of pulling in this invisible element to give us strength that I find remarkable, that deep level of implicit trust to draw into ourselves something that is unknown and feel so assured it will nourish us. It must be horrible to suffer from lung disease and to be denied this basic part of life. I've often felt that the reason smokers smoke is somehow they don't trust this fundamentally basic activity and they smoke not so much to draw the smoke in, but to exhale it."
