Stefan Crane has been designing and building furniture for over 20 years. His furniture has very clean, bold shapes with subtle, delicate details. The work is difficult to pigeonhole. It spans being the feature piece in postmodern contemporary settings to blending beautifully with quality antiques. Part of the reason for this is the use of beautiful natural hardwoods, the clean lines and the exquisite craftsmanship. The other part is the roots the deigns have in classic architecture and design. In other words these are collectable contemporary classics that you will enjoy living with.

Mr. Crane has shown his furniture throughout the world. His client list includes many of the largest national and international corporations in the world as well as individuals who want to fill their personal environment with special unique pieces. When asked how he combined his love of painting and woodworking, Mr. Crane replied, "They are two very different disciplines that have a lot in common. As the gesture of the figure is brought out in the paintings, the skeletal structure of the furniture is apparent in my designs with a straightforward attitude, similar to Shaker or Arts and Crafts.

At the same time, the shapes and forms of the furniture are as sensuous as the shapes and forms in the paintings. To paint the human figure successfully you must first understand human anatomy and how the body moves. This applies whether you are painting in a realistic style or an expressionistic or abstract style. To design and build a successful piece of furniture yo must understand the nature of wood and how it needs to move over a period of years. You must also know how to engineer the structure and joinery so that a chair for instance, is strong and sturdy yet has graceful and even whimsical lines. I love to design very sculptural, stand alone pieces that your eyes never tire of resting on, even if you've seen it hundred of times."

Each piece is individually crafted using only premium grade materials and archival craftsmanship. Each piece is built to order and all construction details will be discussed at time of order.
